Prévot: Progress toward normalization requires sustained focus on reducing tensions, particularly in the north
The Belgian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Maxime Prévot, stated today in Pristina that continued progress toward the normalization of relations with Belgrade requires sustained attention to reducing tensions, particularly in the north. He made this statement following a meeting with Kosovo’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Glauk Konjufca.
According to Prévot, Belgium fully supports the dialogue facilitated by the European Union and calls for tangible progress in the implementation of the Brussels Agreement and other agreements.
“This is essential for regional stability and Kosovo’s European future. Continued progress toward normalization requires sustained focus on reducing tensions, particularly in the north, by avoiding unilateral actions and through safeguards for all communities, as well as confidence-building measures. These efforts are fundamental for Kosovo’s path toward Europe and for benefiting from EU support,” Prévot stated.
He also underscored the need for political stability in Kosovo, noting that the political crisis that has affected Kosovo since last year is regrettable.
“I would like to reaffirm my strong political support and long-term commitment to Kosovo. I hope for a swift stabilization of the country’s institutions. Political stability is key,” Prévot emphasized.
He further expressed support for Kosovo’s membership in the Council of Europe, as well as for granting it candidate status for membership in the European Union.
“I will actively advocate for your membership—not in the future, but now. The time is right,” the Belgian minister concluded.
