A ramp for Kosovo in the Council of Europe; the US wrote to European countries
The United States of America and three EU members have asked several member states of the Council of Europe not to put the issue of Kosovo's membership in this organization on the agenda of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe until Pristina shows constructiveness regarding the Community of Serb-majority Municipalities.
"The ministries of foreign affairs of certain European countries, which are members of the Council of Europe, received a note from the embassies of the United States of America in which it is said that Washington considered that the issue of Kosovo's accession to the membership of the Council of Europe should not be put on the agenda of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe," Euronews Serbia learned from diplomatic sources in Europe.
As they state, the US requests that the issue of Kosovo's membership in the Council of Europe not be put on the agenda until "Kosovo adopts a more constructive position on the Community of Serb-majority Municipalities (CSM), which would pave the way for the proposal of the Basic Agreement between Belgrade and Pristina".
According to Euronews, this US position had been agreed upon with Italy, France, and Germany.
On May 12, Kosovo officially submitted a request for full membership in the Council of Europe.
By the way, the Council of Europe has meetings every Wednesday where this point can always be put on the agenda.
