The President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, today received the Special Representative of the Secretary General of the United Nations and the Head of UNMIK, Caroline Ziadeh, and on that occasion, he emphasized that Serbia advocated for the respect of the principles of international law.

As announced by the media cooperation service of the President of the Republic, Vucic added that Serbia advocated the implementation of the legally binding resolution 1244 of the United Nations Security Council, which had also established UNMIK, and added that it was essential that the issue of Kosovo be further discussed in the UN Security Council, primarily so that the international community would be transparently informed about the situation on the ground.

Ziadeh said that UNMIK, in accordance with its mandate, respected the UN Charter and Resolution 1244, as well as advocated for the respect of all international agreements, the statement added.

As it was added, Vucic had also said that the continuation of the engagement of UNMIK was necessary, first of all, as he stated, due to the permanent instability in Kosovo, which was full of numerous incidents.

"Belgrade is fully committed to dialogue, as evidenced by the demonstrated will to continue negotiations in Brussels, as well as overall efforts in the search for a solution to the crisis imposed by the Pristina side by taking unilateral steps. We consider unacceptable the frequent attacks on the Serbs, their property and heritage, because of which a timely reaction, as well as condemnation of provocations by the United Nations and the international community, is key," Vucic pointed out, expressing hope that Serbia would manage to preserve peace and stability.

Vucic also emphasized that Serbia was committed to improving regional cooperation, which directly contributed to the reconciliation process.
