Rubio: US committed to deepening relations with Serbia, I hope to visit

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said today that the United States wanted to deepen its strategic partnership with Serbia and that he hoped to have an opportunity to visit the country.

“We have taken steps in this administration to advance our cooperation. I know that representatives of the State Department and other government agencies have already been there. I hope I will have an opportunity to visit as well,” Rubio said at a press conference in New York, responding to a question about Serbia’s evolving role as a strategic partner of the United States and how the administration intended to deepen those relations.

Rubio stressed that the United States remained committed to deepening its relationship with Serbia.

“Although Serbia is involved in some issues that are potentially problematic and explosive and are matters of international concern, we remain committed to deepening the relationship. It is a strategic partnership that we want to deepen, and we intend to do so while at the same time addressing some of the potential issues that may arise,” Rubio said.
