Vucic with Landau on strengthening Serbia-US relations

Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic met with US Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau to discuss strengthening relations between the two countries. Vucic also highlighted the importance of preserving peace and stability in the Western Balkans and Serbia’s responsible policies.

“An excellent, exceptional meeting with Christopher Landau, one of our most important interlocutors within the Strategic Dialogue we are conducting with the United States. We discussed further strengthening Serbia-US relations, investments, political issues and other important matters that we want to address through open and constructive dialogue,” Vucic wrote on Instagram.

He noted that the launch of the Strategic Dialogue had created additional opportunities for closer cooperation in the areas of the economy, investment, energy and new technologies, as well as for more frequent exchanges of views on important regional and global issues.

Vucic particularly emphasized the importance of preserving peace and stability in the Western Balkans and Serbia’s responsible policies at a time of major geopolitical change.

“We want an even stronger presence of US companies and more projects that will deliver tangible results for our citizens and our economy,” added the Serbian President, who is attending the United Nations General Assembly session in New York.

Meeting with the President of Somalia

Earlier today, Vucic met with Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud to discuss launching concrete joint projects and thanked him for his consistent understanding of Serbia’s positions and support in international organizations.

“A continuation of the talks with Hassan Sheikh Mohamud that began during our recent meeting in Belgrade. We discussed the next steps in developing relations between Serbia and Somalia, opportunities for more substantive cooperation, as well as the most important regional and global challenges,” Vucic wrote on Instagram.

He stressed the importance of advancing economic cooperation, given the potential that remained insufficiently utilized.

“We devoted particular attention to connecting our economies and launching concrete joint projects that would give new momentum to our relations and deliver tangible results for both countries. I am grateful to President Mohamud for his consistent understanding of Serbia’s positions and the support he provides to our country in international organizations,” Vucic concluded.

Meeting with Macron

During the day, Vucic also met French President Emmanuel Macron in New York.

“When you literally run into a friend between two meetings. With President Macron, in passing, each of us on the way to our next meeting. That is what it is like at the UN General Assembly—many meetings, little time, and some of the best conversations happen entirely by chance,” Vucic wrote.
