Sekulic: Abolishing payment transactions with Serbia would result in a humanitarian catastrophe
If payment transactions with Serbia are abolished, and the use of dinars is prohibited in Kosovo, it would lead to a humanitarian catastrophe, Sasa Sekulic, the president of the Association of Serbian Entrepreneurs from Gracanica, said in an interview with Kosovo Online. He emphasizes that elderly citizens receive pensions from Serbia, and many employed in healthcare, education, and various institutions receive their salaries in dinars.
"Just as the new year began, unfortunately, after all these holidays, Serbs received the announcement of the abolition of payment transactions. It's bad news, just like the ban on Serbian goods, but this is even worse. I appeal to the government in Pristina not to do this, on behalf of the entrepreneurs. I also call on all Serbian political representatives to start talking with international factors from today, even with representatives of the government in Pristina, to prevent this decision," Sekulic said.
He emphasizes that if payment transactions with Serbia were abolished, it would lead to a humanitarian catastrophe.
"I'll mention the elderly citizens who receive pensions; it would be a humanitarian catastrophe because many of them receive pensions by having them delivered to their home addresses by mail carriers. What will happen to that? Where will they receive their pensions? We also have another issue; many Albanians receive pensions from the Republic of Serbia. Where will they receive them? I still hope that Pristina will not make this decision, but everything should be done to prevent it. The entire education and healthcare system receives salaries in dinars, even many entrepreneurs who operate within the Serbian system trade with each other using dinars," Sekulic said.
