The Serb List: Shooting an example of police misconduct in northern Kosovo

The Serb List strongly condemns the use of firearms by Kosovo Police officers in densely populated areas of Kosovska Mitrovica during the pursuit of a motor vehicle through the city streets, because of this, they emphasize the safety of Serbian families, who were on the streets and in their homes, was directly jeopardized.

"Numerous bullets fired by Kosovo Police officers ended up in the windows of children's and living rooms of family homes, damaging building facades and causing fear and distress among our citizens", the Serb List warns in the statement.

They emphasize that they absolutely do not support anyone committing criminal acts but demand that the rules for carrying out police duties be respected, where it is clearly stated that endangering the lives of citizens and children is not allowed.

The uniform, regardless of its nature, should not serve as cover for criminal acts committed by those who wear it, the Serb List states.

They point out that the use of firearms today could have led to the harm of innocent people since firearms were used in the middle of the day when dozens of citizens were on the sidewalks, taking a walk with their children.

“Today's shooting incident is also an example of the arrogant behavior of Kurti's police in northern Kosovo and Metohija, which must be condemned by both the police inspectorate and international representatives. The arrest of a perpetrator of a criminal offense cannot justify endangering the lives of citizens and their children, and it must receive clear condemnation. Police officers must set an example of lawfulness, rather than acting like arrogant sheriffs from cowboy movies“, the statement from the Serb List concludes.
