Sheholli: Any idea to join Kosovo to Albania is unconstitutional
Any idea to join Kosovo to Albania is unconstitutional, says Fatmir Sheholli, an analyst from the Institute for the Affirmation of Interethnic Relations in Pristina, commenting on the assessment that the latest statements of Prime Minister Albin Kurti are reviving the idea of Greater Albania, RTV reports.
He points out that the Albanian aspiration for the annexation of Kosovo has existed since 1945, but that in today's circumstances and according to the current Constitution, this is not possible in any way, but can only exist as an idea.
As he said, the unification of Kosovo with Albania was Kurti's political idea, but it was unachievable according to the constitution. This is why, he says, Kurti will not even try to make it happen.
In a statement for Tanjug, Sheholli pointed out that the Prime Minister of Albania, Edi Rama, made a great contribution in finding opportunities for dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina.
"I believe that Rama plays a big role in all of this. I would like for the Western Balkans to have more such prime ministers who try to solve the situation. It was not easy for Rama to come to Belgrade and visit Vucic, because the opposition in Albania blames him for that," Sheholli said.
He also believes that Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic and Albin Kurti have a chance to resolve the situation in Kosovo and join the progressive European trends.
