Social assistance recipients in Gracanica attempted to withdraw payment from Serbia: Life has become difficult due to the ban on dinar
In front of the post office in Gracanica, citizens, including social assistance recipients, gathered today in an attempt to withdraw payment provided by the state of Serbia.
Since February 1st, when the Central Bank of Kosovo decided to ban banking transactions in dinars, the post office in Gracanica has been unable to pay out money deposited by Serbia to its customers.
After attempting to withdraw money, the gathered citizens emphasized that life had become very difficult due to the dinar ban.
"I receive my salary through the Serbian budget. We are not managing at all, we have nowhere to withdraw our salary, I have a child who goes to school. We eat and drink what we have. It's difficult even for medications, we have to buy everything, and we don't have money. My wife is sick, we need to buy medicine. There are three of us, and we need to make a living. It's beyond comprehension that you can't withdraw your own income," Naser Jasarevic said.
"The situation is difficult for us who receive our salary in dinars. We are waiting to see what they will decide. Life is hard for us Roma people; here, we are a family of 10 members. So far, we have been withdrawing our income here in Gracanica, but now, if this continues, we will have to go to Bujanovac or Kursumlija," Senad Salijevic said.
Today, in front of the post office in Gracanica, Kosovo police officers were also present, informing citizens that they "did not announce a gathering," even though they were only trying to withdraw their money.
