Spahiu: There is discomfort in the US over Kurti, but Kosovo will not leave their “orbit” because of that
Professor of Political Science, Nexhmedin Spahiu, stated that the strained relations of caretaker Prime Minister Albin Kurti with the US will not worsen Washington’s overall relationship with Kosovo, because Kosovo is a “child of the West” and will not leave the American “orbit.”
“Relations between the US and Kosovo are good. There is some discomfort in the US administration’s stance toward Prime Minister Albin Kurti, but that does not mean that Kosovo can step outside the US ‘orbit.’ After all, the state of Kosovo is a ‘child of the West,’ and especially of the US, so ‘a father may sometimes slap a child, but it is still his child.’ One cannot say that Kosovo will fall outside of US influence or be cast aside, isolated… That is not the case,” Spahiu told Kosovo Online.
He believes that “citizens know Kurti has problems in diplomatic relations” not only with the US, but also with other countries such as Albania, because of “his egocentrism.”
“But this was also reflected in the recent February 9 elections, when his reputation dropped by almost ten percent. That does, to some extent, affect voters in Kosovo,” Spahiu emphasized.
