Trucks highlighting difficult situation of Serbs in Kosovo take to New York streets for third year

As in previous years, the Serbian diaspora in the United States is once again using an initiative on the streets of New York during the United Nations General Assembly session to draw attention to what it describes as the difficult conditions in which Serbs live in Kosovo.

Trucks equipped with video screens showing the lives of Serbs in Kosovo are circulating along some of New York’s most prominent streets, including through Times Square in the heart of the city.

Speaking on behalf of the Serbian diaspora in the United States, Aleks Mitrovic said that the annual session of the United Nations had begun in New York today and that this was precisely why they were there. This is the third consecutive year that such trucks have appeared on the streets of New York.

“The trucks behind me are showing a video depicting the situation and the lives of Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija. We want to draw the attention of numerous officials and government representatives to the living conditions of Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija,” Mitrovic said.

He stressed that the initiative was not political.

“On the contrary, this is a humanitarian initiative and, above all, an act of patriotism,” Mitrovic emphasized.

The footage displayed on the trucks includes scenes from the March 2004 violence, as well as images of young Stefan Stojanovic from Gotovusa, who was wounded by Azem Kurtaj on Orthodox Christmas Eve in 2023. The videos also show the detention of Serbs, protests by doctors held earlier this year, and messages of support for US President Donald Trump in Belgrade.
