This year as well, the Serbian diaspora in New York drew attention to the difficult situation of Serbs in Kosovo

As in the previous year, during the session of the United Nations General Assembly, in recent days three trucks with billboards have been circulating the streets of New York, around the headquarters of the world organization, through which the Serbian diaspora in the United States seeks to highlight the harsh conditions in which Serbs live in Kosovo.

As part of this awareness-raising campaign directed at the American and international public, the video screens mounted on the trucks alternate between images depicting crimes committed by the KLA and footage showing the real-life circumstances of the Serbian population, who are under constant pressure from the authorities in Pristina.

Speaking on behalf of the Serbian diaspora that organized the campaign, Aleks Mitrovic told Kosovo Online that their goal was to point out a situation that has persisted for a long time.

“Yesterday, the President of the United States, Donald Trump, stated in his address to the UN General Assembly that the issue of Kosovo and Metohija, namely the war in Kosovo, had been resolved. However, today we stand here in front of the UN as representatives of the Serbs to draw attention to the reality in Kosovo and Metohija, which still continues,” Mitrovic said.

He emphasized that this was already the second time they had organized such an action, intended to awaken awareness among Americans and the international community regarding what the Serbian population in Kosovo is going through.

“We want to draw the attention of the international community to the torture and constant violence that Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija are subjected to,” Mitrovic said.

He pointed out that Americans are not sufficiently informed about the situation and the difficult circumstances in which Serbs in Kosovo live.

“The Kosovo issue was mentioned in what could be described as the most important speech at the opening of the General Debate of the UNGA, and yet it passed without any follow-up questions, which clearly shows us that people are uninformed—especially U.S. citizens,” he noted.

With this campaign, he said, they wanted to help ensure that the difficult situation of Serbs in Kosovo is not forgotten.

“Even though opinions in Serbia seem divided at the moment, I believe we can all unite around the issue of Kosovo and Metohija, namely that Kosovo and Metohija is the heart of Serbia—it always has been and it always will be,” Mitrovic stressed.
