Vucic with European Commissioner Johansson: Safety of Serbs in Kosovo should be an EU priority
The President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, pointed out today in a conversation with the European Union Commissioner for Home Affairs and Migration, Ylva Johansson, that he expected the EU to treat the security of Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija as a priority in the coming period and that this topic would be discussed at all subsequent meetings within the framework of the dialogue, including, above all, the urgent formation of the Community of Serb-majority Municipalities.
As announced by the Presidency of Serbia, the meeting discussed cooperation with EU institutions in terms of harmonizing the visa regime, the fight against organized crime, but also the continuation of the dialogue with Pristina, the status of Serbia's accession negotiations, and reform processes in our country.
President Vucic thanked the EU for its support and assistance in managing migration, as well as for the fact that our country's efforts in regulating the migrant crisis had been recognized and acknowledged because Serbia had seriously and responsibly accepted its part of the obligations from the beginning, which had greatly contributed to the general security of the EU and its citizens.
Vucic reiterated that Serbia's full membership in the EU remains one of the foreign policy priorities of the country and its strategic commitment, stressing the country's sincere commitment to the reform process on the European path.
The Head of State particularly emphasized that Serbia continues to work actively on the process of harmonizing its visa policy with the EU and that, in this sense, in addition to the application of additional measures, the introduction of a visa regime is also planned for those countries from which the largest number of abuses have been registered.
Commissioner Johansson said that Serbia had proven to be a close, reliable, and responsible partner of the Union in solving the problem of migration and that it was of great importance for the EU to continue providing strong support to the European integration of Serbia, with which it wants even closer cooperation in all areas of importance and mutual interest.
