The President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, commented on an initiative by certain American congressmen to integrate Kosovo into NATO and emphasized that Serbia will fight to prevent such a development.

Responding to journalists’ questions after an address in Pancevo, where he attended the opening of a training center for dual and lifelong education, Vucic said that such initiatives had already been launched through Croatia and Albania, as well as through other member states of the Alliance.

“We will soon have important exercises, we are talking with partners and hope that this will not happen. We will fight to prevent it. Just as there are member states of the European Union that have not recognized Kosovo, there are also four NATO member states that have not done so. I do not see how such an initiative could pass easily. We will wait to see further developments,” Vucic said.

It should be recalled that US Congressman Keith Self, together with Congressman Mike Lawler, introduced a resolution in the United States House of Representatives expressing strong support for Kosovo’s integration into NATO.

As stated on Congressman Self’s official website, the resolution affirms that “Kosovo’s democratic governance, civilian oversight of security forces, and multiethnic coexistence demonstrate compelling arguments for NATO membership.”
