Vucic: It is clear whom the Serbian people in Kosovo stand with
Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic stated today that Serbs in Kosovo clearly demonstrated in yesterday's elections where they see themselves, their country, and how they want their problems to be addressed in the future.
“I congratulate our people and am immensely grateful to the Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija for overwhelmingly confirming where they see themselves, their country, and how they want their problems to be resolved in the future. With nearly 43,000 votes, the Serbs placed their trust in the Serb List, while another supposedly Serbian party—an Albanian party, or rather Kurti’s party, which they never concealed—received just under 3,000 votes,” Vucic said on TV Pink.
He pointed out that, under almost impossible circumstances, the Serb List received 14 times more votes and said that the people deserved congratulations for their perseverance.
“This is how the Serbs voted. Then votes began arriving from those who are not Serbs, who were supposed to secure not one, but, as they had hoped, three seats in order to help Kurti form a government,” Vucic explained.
He noted that the party in question received votes in Prizren, Kacanik, and Glogovac, places where, according to him, there have been no Serbs for 30 years, including from the heart of Drenica.
“Only the descendants of Adem Jashari did not vote against the Serb List. Or perhaps they did... In all of those places, they received dozens and hundreds of votes in an effort to win a single seat. This is not political engineering; it is outright theft. The system provides for Serbs to have ten seats, not for others to vote on their behalf. Something similar also happened in Bosnia and Herzegovina,” Vucic stressed.
He added that he could see that Marta Kos and Kaja Kallas were delighted with the election outcome and, he said ironically, “congratulated them on their democracy,” in which educators and healthcare workers are being arrested.
“But above all, I congratulate our people, who clearly showed where they stand. I congratulated Zlatan Elek and others. I thank these people for preserving the Serbian name and identity. We will continue to support them and fight for them and for our country,” Vucic emphasized.
He added that the gap was now even greater than in the December elections, as the Serb List received more votes despite lower turnout, while the other party received significantly fewer.
I Hope We Can Begin a Strategic Dialogue with the United States This Summer
Vucic also expressed hope that Serbia could begin a strategic dialogue with the United States during the summer.
“U.S. President Donald Trump took note of one of my statements, an interview. We are working with the Americans, and I hope that during the summer we can begin a strategic dialogue with the United States. This is extremely important for our country at a time of great tensions and enormous regional and global confrontations. And that level of confrontation will not decrease—it will only grow,” Vucic said.
He reiterated that this is precisely why it is important for Serbia to preserve peace and stability.
