Vujovic, Shala and Rexhepi elected Deputy Speakers; Haxhiu: Assembly constituted

At the constitutive session of the Kosovo Assembly, Deputy Speakers from the LDK, the Serb List and the non-Serb non-majority communities were elected—Kujtim Shala, Tanja Vujovic and Emilia Rexhepi. Assembly Speaker Albulena Haxhiu declared the Kosovo Assembly constituted, even though a Deputy Speaker from the PDK was not elected.

At the beginning of the session, Haxhiu noted that 82 MPs were present in the chamber.

She pointed out that PDK MPs were once again absent from parliament today, thereby, as she put it, violating the Constitutional Court’s ruling.

LDK’s Kujtim Shala elected Deputy Speaker

“The Kosovo Assembly cannot be held hostage by any political party, so we will proceed with the LDK’s nomination,” Haxhiu said, calling on MPs to vote for Shala.

He received 74 votes in favor and was elected Deputy Speaker of the Assembly from the LDK.

Following the election of the LDK Deputy Speaker, the Serb List presented its nominee.

Serb List’s Tanja Vujovic elected Deputy Speaker

Igor Simic said that the parliamentary group’s nominee was Slavko Simic.

A total of 65 MPs voted against him, and he was therefore not elected Deputy Speaker of the Kosovo Assembly.

In the second round, the Serb List nominated Igor Simic for Deputy Speaker, but he was also not elected, as 62 MPs voted against him.

The Serb List’s third nominee was Ljiljana Stevanovic.

The Serb List’s nominee was again not elected in the third round, with 62 MPs voting against the proposal.

The Serb List’s fourth nominee was Srdjan Popovic, but he also failed to secure enough votes.

The Serb List’s subsequent nomination of Branislav Nikolic was likewise rejected.

The party then nominated MP Jovana Radosavljevic, but she was not elected, with 63 MPs voting against her.

Milan Joksimovic was the Serb List’s seventh nominee. However, 63 MPs voted against his nomination.

Another Serb List nominee was the party’s president, Zlatan Elek. A total of 63 MPs voted against his nomination.

Tanja Vujovic was then nominated and was elected Deputy Speaker of the Assembly with 62 votes in favor.

Emilia Rexhepi elected Deputy Speaker

Following the election of the Serb List Deputy Speaker, the Assembly proceeded to vote on the Deputy Speaker representing the non-Serb non-majority communities.

Emilia Rexhepi was elected Deputy Speaker with 70 votes in favor.

Haxhiu: Kosovo Assembly constituted

Following the election of Deputy Speakers representing the LDK, the Serb List and the non-Serb non-majority communities, Albulena Haxhiu declared the Assembly constituted.

As a reminder, the Self-Determination Movement announced last night that it would vote at today’s session for the Democratic Party of Kosovo and Democratic League of Kosovo nominees, Vlora Citaku and Kujtim Shala, for Deputy Speakers of the Kosovo Assembly.

However, ahead of today’s session, the Democratic Party of Kosovo announced that it would not participate until the Constitutional Court issued its decision.
