Witness of today's shooting in North Mitrovica: My daughter and I survived by sheer luck
Blagoje Perovic, who lives in the immediate vicinity of the Faculty of Economics in North Mitrovica, where earlier today the Kosovo police used automatic weapons during an arrest attempt, tells for Kosovo Online that he and his family members survived today by sheer luck, because the bullets strayed above their the head.
The family of Blagoj Perovic, a few hours after the shooting in North Mitrovica, still cannot understand what happened today and the reason why the policemen fired a hail of bullets at their shop and apartment at noon.
Perovic says that he was watching television in his home when he heard the shooting, and then a bullet hit the window above his head.
At the time, his daughter was working in the store below their apartment.
Several bullets "ended up" in the store, one even went through two walls and ended up in the monitor above Blagoje’s daughter Radica.
"I was sitting and watching TV. Suddenly I heard a bang and glass breaking. I asked my wife what happened, and she answered me that someone was shooting at the window. When I looked at the window, the glass was broken in the same direction and height as my head. We went outside, and then my daughter told me that they shot at the store, same with two bullets. I really can't even speak, I was so excited and scared after all that... It could have been anything. Daughter I could have been dead too," says Perovic, still visibly shaken.
Fortunately, the bullet remained in the window, where it was found by the police.
"It didn't go through, it stayed in the window. It could have ended up directly in my head," Perovic is aware.
In the conversation with the police officers, Perović received the answer, as he says, that it did not happen on purpose and that they were chasing thieves with drugs, so they shot at the car.
"It's not intentional... You kill a man, and - it's not intentional," he states.
He also points out that after today, both he and his family feel bad.
"We know that it was probably not the intention, but to shoot like that in a populated place, on the street, it's a disaster... The children were playing outside, we have a lot of children. They shot randomly... I don't understand how in the wild west. It's really a miracle," concluded Perovic.
