Albania’s Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Ferit Hoxha, stated at a hearing in the Foreign Policy Committee that there are no obstacles to continuing his country’s negotiations with the EU.

Hoxha also referred to discussions about the article by Prime Minister Edi Rama and Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic for Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, explaining that such an initiative is not against the European Union, but rather part of political debate and communication in the region.

According to him, Albania remains clearly committed to the process of European integration and aligned with the EU’s strategic direction.

Hoxha thus rejected claims of a blockage or veto by EU member states, stating that the accession process is proceeding normally and that there are no formal obstacles.

He emphasized that Albania is progressing based on merit and the implementation of reforms, adding that the recommendations of the European Commission within the IBAR report were positive and support the continuation of the process. Hoxha also stressed that the country’s strategic goal remains full membership in the European Union by 2030, as reported by Euronews Albania.

“There has been no blockage and there is no veto from any member state regarding Albania’s EU accession process,” Hoxha stated clearly, adding that this positive progress has also been confirmed by the EU Delegation in Tirana.

During his briefing, Hoxha also addressed Albania’s progress in the negotiation process, emphasizing that the country moved from opening zero chapters in October 2024 to opening all 33 chapters by November 2025. According to him, this pace demonstrates both Albania’s institutional readiness and the support of EU institutions for the country’s advancement in the integration process.
