Aksentijevic: We want peace and to return to our workplaces
Natasa Aksentijevic, an official of the Zvecan Municipality, thanked the gathered citizens for joining peaceful protests every day to fight for their basic rights, and she added that they want peace and to live on their own land.
Aksentijevic emphasizes that the employees of the municipality have been deprived of the right to work as their offices have been occupied by members of a special unit.
"As responsible workers, we come every morning to the municipality building and our workplaces, which unfortunately have been occupied by special forces with long guns. Our fundamental human right to work has been taken away. We want to return to our workplaces once the special forces leave the Zvecan Municipality building. We want peace to prevail and for us to live in our own land. That fake mayor should not come to Zvecan because we didn't elect him," Aksentijevic said.
Ana Galjak, a Serbian language teacher at a high school in Zvecan, addressed the attendees on behalf of all educational workers, stating that barbed wire and backpacks do not go together.
"In the high school and elementary school, the situation is such that our children don't have the right to freedom. It's impossible to remain silent about what is happening to them. When they lack freedom and rights, and all rights are based on freedom for peace, work, and a free life. I send a message to everyone in the world that all children have the right to peace. The conditions for work and the presence of our children in school are impossible here. Barbed wire and backpacks do not go together. Instead of graduation songs and laughter, we hear stun grenades and witness something terrible, and it's difficult for us that our children don't have the right to freedom and peace," Galjak stated.
Milan Rajkovic, the director of "Flotation Leposavic, the northern part - Trepca," reminded everyone that miners have been unable to work for a week, adding that Trepca is not a political party.
"For a week now, our production process has been disrupted due to the presence of special forces and the blockade of our entrance and exit. This has paralyzed the production process. We cannot deliver lead and zinc ore, and without sales, we cannot pay our workers' salaries. We don't influence political events, and we don't see a reason for this. Trepca is not a political party but an institution that demands a normal production process to be allowed," Rajkovic said.
