Jovanovic: KFOR members wanted to enter the kindergarten armed; we were scared, but we didn't let them in
At the moment when KFOR soldiers with weapons in their hands entered the yard of the kindergarten in Leposavic at around 12:30 pm and headed for the front door, about 300 children of all ages were in the building, and the youngest were sleeping, the director of the facility "Nasa Radost" (Our Joy), Zorica Jovanovic told Kosovo Online.
"The KFOR soldiers entered the yard of our kindergarten armed and unannounced and went for the main entrance. At that moment, the children were sleeping, and we have about 300 children of all ages in our institution, from six months to preschoolers," director Jovanovic says.
As she explained, when two KFOR soldiers got out of the jeep, the kindergarten security guards noticed them and tried to talk to them.
"However, they did not want to talk, they insisted that we open the main entrance door for them. We don't do that because it is unacceptable for the sake of our children's safety, and we especially don't open the door to people who are armed and do not want any communication with us. We didn't open the door, and they stayed in the area of our institution for more than ten minutes. Then they returned the same way they came from and left our area. It all happened around 1 pm today," Jovanovic said.
Jovanovic added that the workers were scared because the soldiers were unannounced and they were armed.
"We were all scared because of the children for whom we are responsible. This institution's activity is to work with children of preschool age, so we are primarily responsible for their safety. For this reason, fear is inevitable in this kind of situation," Jovanovic stated.
