Trajkovic's detention extended for two more months, family prevented from delivering medication
The Basic Court in Pristina has extended the measure of judicial custody for Sladjan Trajkovic from North Mitrovica for another two months, who is charged with the criminal offense of war crimes against the civilian population.
Trajkovic's defense attorney, Dejan Vasic, stated for Kosovo Online that he, as his defense counsel, had not been involved in the actions taken by the prosecution, despite filing several complaints about such treatment.
"It has been six months since Sladjan was detained, and I, as his defense attorney, have not been called to participate in the investigative proceedings. The prosecutor is questioning witnesses without inviting my client or me to attend these proceedings. This grossly and severely violates the provisions of the law and unilaterally denies the right to defense," Vasic stated.
Vasic emphasized that he had filed numerous complaints with the court, but there had been no response, so he announced his intention to appeal to the Constitutional Court.
"We have pointed out this problem and many other unlawful actions to the Basic, Appellate, and Supreme Courts without anyone deigning to respond to these allegations. The court decisions all have the same justifications to such an extent that I, as the defense counsel, am prevented from exercising even the most basic rights to defense. In that regard, tomorrow I will address the Constitutional Court of Kosovo with a complaint regarding these violations of the law, and I will also request the disqualification of the acting prosecutor," Vasic emphasized.
Sladjan's wife, Suzana, stated in an interview with Kosovo Online that the family is desperate and that they, along with his friends and lawyer Vasic, had done everything and knocked on every door to make someone hear the truth.
"There is no truth or justice, what else can I say. A man whose health is at risk is lying in prison without any evidence, witnesses, or information from the court. We begged all ambassadors of the Quint, the Kosovo authorities, the court, and Prime Minister Kurti to address my husband's case. Everyone remained silent. When Miroslav Lajcak visited North Mitrovica, I briefly met with him and informed him about Sladjan's condition and the fact that he had not received his prescribed medication for 24 days. He said he would discuss it and try to provide him with the medication. I will visit again on Wednesday and bring the medication. I hope they will give it to him," Suzana said.
She stated that she would not give up the fight.
"I will fight together with the lawyer and friends to ensure that justice is served, that Sladjan receives medical treatment, and that he is transferred to a healthcare facility where doctors who have successfully taken care of his health can oversee him. I know he is innocent, and he will prove it, but I don't understand why someone wants to harm his health," Suzana said.
