Vasic: The indictment against Trajkovic was delivered in Albanian and without documents in the case
Lawyer Dejan Vasic, the defense attorney of Sladjan Trajkovic, against whom the Special Prosecutor's Office filed a war crime indictment yesterday, tells for Kosovo Online that the preliminary hearing is scheduled for July 20, and that today he was delivered the indictment in Albanian without any documents from the case, which is why defense preparation is practically impossible.
"The acting special prosecutor filed an indictment against Sladjan Trajkovic on suspicion that he allegedly committed a war crime against the civilian population, which was delivered to me by the court today in the Albanian language, without a single document from the case file. Guided by the desire to respect the principle of urgency, today I went to the premises of the Special Prosecutor's Office, where I was informed that the indictment and file had not been translated at all. I really don't know how the special prosecutor thinks that the defense could get prepared for the preliminary hearing scheduled for July 20," says Vasic.
He states that this kind of behavior represents gross legal kabadahism, which he says he does not remember in his 16 years of work, during which he defended dozens of cases related to war crimes.
"The violation of the right to defense began with a secret investigation that was conducted for six months, without the permission of the defense and the suspect's presence during the investigation. In this way, neither the accused Sladjan nor I have been told for more than half a year what the charges are that keep him detained in prison of high security", lawyer Vasic points out.
