Behrami: Kurti deliberately creates crises to avoid accountability to the EU and the US
Member of the Democratic Party of Kosovo, Artan Behrami, stated that Prime Minister in a technical mandate Albin Kurti is deliberately creating crises in order to avoid accountability to the European Union and the United States, Ekonomia Online reported.
“I believe that the citizens of the Republic of Kosovo, more than ever before, clearly see that the crises are being created by Albin Kurti. Previously as well, but especially now, the main person responsible for Kosovo heading to elections is Albin Kurti, who is hiding behind the Ohrid Agreement, which he himself accepted and which envisages significant autonomy for Serbs in the north and additional territoriality for Serbian Orthodox churches. In order to avoid accountability before the European Union and the United States, Kurti will continue to generate crises. He will try to trigger elections not only now, but will also attempt to do so in winter and again next spring,” Behrami said.
According to him, Kurti is using his power and position to evade responsibility and gain political advantage.
“Regardless of Donald Trump being in the White House, as long as we have this European Union pressuring him to implement the Ohrid Agreement that he himself accepted, he will attempt to create crises. And he has two levers for that—he holds power in his hands, black-windowed jeeps, and the money of Kosovo taxpayers, which he distributes and misuses to buy votes; and on the other hand, he bears no responsibility before the international community because he operates in a technical mandate,” Behrami said.
He added that acting president Albulena Haxhiu will “serve his destabilizing agenda 24 hours a day.”
“I believe that the citizens of the Republic of Kosovo have seen who is to blame. Kurti does not want dialogue, does not want compromise, and does not want a political agreement with any Albanian party. That is why he staged this spectacle and Kosovo is heading to elections. But if citizens think he will stop there, they are mistaken, because he will try to lead us to new elections again even after these elections are over,” Behrami said.
Commenting on Kurti’s offer to the Democratic League of Kosovo in the final hours of the deadline set by the Constitutional Court, including Vjosa Osmani as a presidential candidate, Behrami said it was part of a political strategy.
“Kurti thinks that the citizens of the Republic of Kosovo are illiterate and do not understand or pay attention to what has happened so far. Because until now there have been two ways to elect a president—through full consensus, as in the case of Atifete Jahjaga, or through political agreements, as with Hashim Thaci, Ibrahim Rugova, and Vjosa Osmani. So there are two ways to elect the President of the Republic of Kosovo. But Kurti has invented a third way—competition. In all meetings with political leaders, Kurti did not want a solution. He did not want a president, because Albulena Haxhiu is acting president. At the moment she became acting president, Kurti wanted nothing more than to blame others and portray himself as a victim in order to create a new narrative for the upcoming elections,” Behrami said.
