Nikolic: Serb List won all ten seats; we do not expect fairness from Pristina
The President of the Committee for Kosovo and Metohija of the National Assembly of Serbia, Danijela Nikolic, emphasized that the Serb List won all ten seats in yesterday's elections and added that she does not expect any fairness from Pristina, which, she said, will try to give one seat to Nenad Rasic.
Speaking to RTS, Nikolic said that Albin Kurti would not be able to form a government even after these elections, and that she expects continued political instability and further pressure on Serbs.
"I would like to congratulate the Serbian people on the perseverance, determination, and unity they demonstrated in these elections. This victory of the Serb List belongs to every Serb who remained steadfast, and it is an answer to Rasic and everyone who wanted to destroy the Serb List," she said.
Nikolic pointed out that Kurti was not at peace even on election day, when two people were detained in Gorazdevac.
"He had to do something to divert attention from the poor results. We have no other means of fighting against such a Nazi policy pursued by Kurti. Our tools are the pencil, solidarity, and unity. We have shown that the Serb List is more than a political party because it shares the fate of our people," she stressed.
Nikolic emphasized that Serbs in Kosovo do not look to Pristina but know which state and president are theirs.
She pointed out that Rasic won fewer votes than he had expected and added that, with the help of Albanian votes in municipalities where there are virtually no Serbs, he would try to take one seat away from the Serb List.
Nikolic recalled that, at a government session, Rasic had allegedly called for protecting the Serbian people by arresting the directors of healthcare and educational institutions.
She said that this is his pattern of behavior, and that he received a response from the Serbian people.
"I believe that Kurti will now be fighting for himself because he won fewer votes, and voter fatigue is also evident. He would have received even fewer votes had he not distributed an aid package to citizens before the elections in order to improve his ratings. Even this number of votes is not realistic because of that aid package," she said.
Nikolic stated that Vjosa Osmani took a significant number of voters away from Kurti, though not enough to defeat him, and assessed that there would be new elections if no agreement is reached.
According to her, Kurti has no one with whom to form a government because nobody wants to work with him.
"We are witnessing the collapse of the institutions of their so-called state. For the first time, they were in a position to accomplish something on their own, and we ended up with a fourth electoral process. There is significant voter fatigue and enormous unemployment. Kosovo ranks worst in Europe by all indicators. It lacks the capacity for what could be called a state," she underlined.
Nikolic is convinced that Kurti will continue trying to do something against the Serbian people because his anti-Serb rhetoric remains in force.
"I cannot expect things to improve for Serbs in the days ahead. Kurti is constantly attempting something, and he will continue taking actions against Serbs in order to divert attention from his poor result. Interestingly, he blames Serbia and President Aleksandar Vucic for his poor result. He no longer knows what to do with himself," she said.
At the same time, she assessed that this situation suits Kurti and that the past two years have been a "comfort zone for settling scores with Serbs."
Nikolic said that she does not expect anyone from the international community, as has been the case so far, to stand up against what she described as Kurti's terror.
She underlined that the Kosovo issue can be resolved only through dialogue.
"We are not in a position to resolve the issue solely in Belgrade or solely in Pristina. The right path is through America and Washington. That is why our relations with them matter greatly. It is through that avenue that we can fight for a better position for our people, and the successful conduct of Serbia's foreign policy by its president is also helping to resolve the issue of Kosovo and Metohija," Nikolic stressed.
