Antonijevic: Strange and undiplomatic statement from the German Embassy in Pristina
Legal expert Milan Antonijevic described today’s statement by the German Embassy in Kosovo as very strange and undiplomatic.
“A very strange and undiplomatic statement from the German Embassy in Pristina, addressed to Serbian officials,” Antonijevic wrote on the social media platform X.
Earlier today, the German Embassy in Pristina stated that it had taken note of a recent letter from the Director of the Office for Kosovo and Metohija, Petar Petkovic, in which he calls on the EU, its member states, and other interested parties to stop Pristina’s escalatory actions and the planned construction of two new bridges over the Ibar River.
In the statement, while reiterating that the Embassy has consistently urged the Government of Kosovo to refrain from escalatory moves in its responses to the media, it also remarked, “It is certainly not the Kosovo government that is failing to take legal measures against those responsible for the heinous attack in Banjska.”
The statement further asserted that everyone “must put their own house in order before constantly criticizing Kosovo for its decisions.”
“In German we say – ‘Erstmal vor der eigenen Haustür kehren’ – first sweep in front of your own doorstep,” the Embassy’s message stated.
Petar Petkovic, Director of the Office for Kosovo and Metohija, responded to this statement by stressing that Kosovo is indeed Serbia’s doorstep.
“Mr. Rohde, Kosovo and Metohija are Serbia’s doorstep and Serbia’s courtyard,” Petkovic stated.
