American Professor Alon Ben-Meir believes that the disobedience of Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti led to the sanctions of the USA and the European Union and adds that, if the Community of Serb-majority Municipalities were formed, there would have been no tensions in the north of Kosovo, Ekonomia Online reports.

"If Kurti would meet the demands of the EU and the US, they would calm the atmosphere. It would also create a favorable environment for cooperation and end the conflict and lift sanctions," Ben-Meir said.

According to Ben-Meir, the price of sanctions is paid by the citizens of Kosovo.

"Truth be told, in reality, Kurti has the only two allies who care about the future and prosperity of Kosovo, and the sanctions they introduced are not so much to punish Kosovo as a country, but to wake Kurti up to see the reality, which he chooses to ignore while the Kosovar Albanians are paying the price," Ben-Meir told Dukagjini.

Ben-Meir is of the opinion that if the Community of Serb-majority Municipalities were formed, there would have been no violence and tensions in the north of Kosovo.

"Finally, it is very important to emphasize that if the CSM were established as agreed many years ago, none of this would have happened. Now is the time to implement what was agreed upon and we hope to start a new era and fully restore the normalization of relations and cooperation with the USA and the EU in all areas, especially their financial support, without which Kosovo will suffer a lot. The impact of sanctions on business, education, and infrastructure is visible to all," Ben-Meir said.
