Brnabic: Romania stands with Serbia on the issue of Kosovo and Metohija; function of the President of the Assembly - my honor

Prime Minister of Serbia Ana Brnabic stated after a meeting with Romanian President Klaus Iohannis that Romania would not change its stance on Kosovo, namely regarding respect for Serbia's territorial integrity.

Brnabic told reporters in Bucharest that Romania stood by Serbia on the issue of territorial integrity.

Stating that she had a very good meeting with the President of Romania, Brnabic said that Iohannis was a fantastic man.

"It is an absolutely firm stance that Romania stands by Serbia on the issue of Kosovo and Metohija, as well as European integration. There will be no change in the stance regarding respect for Serbia's territorial integrity and adherence to international law," Brnabic said.

She added that Serbia continued to work on many important projects in the areas of transportation infrastructure, and energy infrastructure with Romania.

"We want to connect schools and universities; there was a very good meeting with Iohannis and I hope he will visit Serbia soon," the Prime Minister said.

Commenting on the decision of the Serbian Progressive Party to nominate her for the position of the President of the Serbian Parliament, Brnabic said that she viewed it very emotionally and that the position, as well as everything President Vucic said about her, was actually - her honor.

She stated that she expected the parliament session to resume very soon because, she said, Serbia did not have time to waste.

"We have big plans ahead of us, we need to continue working. I thank the Serbian Progressive Party for everything, there is no such party in Serbia, there has never been. I became a minister when I wasn't a member of the party, I wasn't in politics. I showed vision and persistence, and the party and Vucic gave me an incredible opportunity and honor to be the Prime Minister. I have been in that position for seven years, and now the party trusts me to be the President of the Parliament. Everything the President said about me... That's my honor," Brnabic stated.

When asked if she expected to be in the new position – of the President of the Serbian Parliament, Brnabic said that they had discussed it, as President of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic and President of the Serbian Progressive Party Milos Vucevic said.

"We had several conversations, there were several options. I don't think this will be easy or simple; I have a lot to learn. This is a completely different job, and I start learning from tonight," the Prime Minister said.

She notes that this position will be a great challenge for her.

"However, I hope and promise that I will give my best, and that I will work in the interest of Serbia. I hope that together we will all succeed in contributing to stability domestically because externally we have, but we have a lot to do for our people and citizens. I have to learn, let's move forward," Brnabic stated.
