Dacic: Pristina sugarcoats its desire for statehood recognition with regional stability
The Serbian Foreign Affairs Minister, Ivica Dacic, assessed that Kosovo's announcements about applying for candidate status in the EU were a desire for the recognition of statehood, which was "sugarcoated with regional stability", Danas reports.
Regarding Pristina's recent announcements that they will apply for candidate status in the EU in mid-December, Dacic said for Happy TV that "they constantly suffer from some reciprocity."
"Serbia is an internationally recognized country, and in the EU, whose five member states have not recognized Kosovo, decisions are made by consensus," Dacic reminded.
He said it was unknown when Kosovo’s announced application for membership in the Council of Europe (CoE) would be on the organization's agenda.
Dacic also pointed out that CoE decisions were made by a two-thirds majority and added that he informed Iceland, which chairs the CoE, that official Belgrade opposed Pristina's intention.
"We are not going to burn the CoE headquarters in protest, but as responsible people, we will fight against that," he said.
Dacic also said that he did not believe it was in the interest of CoE members to express their opinion on an issue by overvoting, given the current Ukraine-Russia situation.
