Djuric with Hanrahan: Deep concern over the security of Serbs in Kosovo
Serbia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Marko Djuric, met today on the sidelines of the OSCE Ministerial Council in Vienna with the Acting Deputy Assistant Secretary of State of the United States, Brendan Hanrahan, to whom he conveyed Serbia’s deep concern regarding the security of Serbs in Kosovo and attempts to restrict their rights.
Djuric and Hanrahan discussed priority issues in the field of bilateral cooperation, the situation in the region, and current international topics, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Serbia said in a statement.
Reflecting on his recently concluded visit to Washington, marked by important discussions with U.S. officials, the Serbian foreign minister emphasized that the visit was of exceptional significance for deepening mutual understanding.
The minister also addressed the role and importance of the OSCE in circumstances of change within the international system. He underscored the importance of peace processes in which the United States plays a leading role, reiterating Serbia’s support for efforts aimed at achieving peace.
Djuric informed his interlocutor about the situation in Kosovo, expressing deep concern over the security of Serbs and attempts to limit fundamental political rights, such as participation in the electoral process.
The two also discussed the current situation regarding the Petroleum Industry of Serbia (NIS), as well as the steps Serbia is taking to resolve this issue, the statement added.
