Drecun: Kurti's ultimate goal is to establish full police-military occupation of northern Kosovo and Metohija

Milovan Drecun, the President of the Parliamentary Committee for Kosovo and Metohija, says that the goal of Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti is for Serbs to no longer live in Kosovo, while the intention of Pristina is further escalation, RTS reports.

He emphasizes that the only way to calm the situation is for the special forces to completely withdraw from the north and for the arrests of Serbs to cease.

"Kurti has made a list of around 350 Serbs whom he labels as terrorists, and the space for the Serbian people to operate is shrinking. After last year's blockades, it was demanded that there be no more barricades, even though Pristina constantly does so by setting up police checkpoints in northern Kosovo," Drecun said.

He added that KFOR has a mandate to ensure a secure environment for everyone in Kosovo, but only the rights of Serbs are jeopardized. He emphasized that KFOR does not react to Kurti's moves under the pretext of establishing the rule of law.

"At the same time, they are receiving weapons, primarily from Turkey, ranging from unmanned aerial vehicles to artillery. They are growing into an army. We have several indications that warn us that Kurti's ultimate goal is to establish a full police-military occupation of northern Kosovo," Drecun said.

He mentioned that a march had recently been held by 250 members of the Kosovo Security Force (KSF), which, according to him, was actually a rehearsal for an incursion into the north.

"By planting cars with weapons, Pristina is seeking to label the supporter group 'Sever' (North) as a terrorist group because they want to introduce not only police units but also military structures in this way. Kurti is not only escalating the situation but also engaging in direct conflict with the Serbian people," Drecun said.

Speaking about international guarantees to Serbia and Serbs from Kosovo, it is difficult, as he says, because even what was negotiated back in 2013, namely the Community of Serb Municipalities, has not been implemented.

"We do not see that they are influencing the situation on the ground, and there should not be high expectations of Brussels," Drecun concluded.
