Fajon: Kosovo must make an effort to establish the CSM

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Slovenia, Tanja Fajon, expressed the hope that both Belgrade and Pristina would take advantage of the current opportunity provided by the European proposal because it was difficult to say when new opportunities would be presented.

Fajon, in a statement to the daily newspaper from Vienna "Der Standard", when asked what she thought about the Franco-German proposal, said that Kosovo had to make a real effort to establish the Community of Serb-majority Municipalities and ensure the integration and well-being of members of the Serbian community.

"It is important that both sides show restraint and that everything is done to continue the dialogue. When it comes to the European proposal, I understand that we are talking about very difficult political decisions with many possible consequences. However, I hope that both Belgrade and Pristina, led by their politicians, will find a way to take advantage of this moment. It's hard to say when new opportunities will arise again," she explained.

When asked whether the agreement between Serbia and Kosovo could limit Russia's influence in Serbia, Fajon said that she did not understand why the question of Russia's influence was raised.

"I think that in recent days we have seen more positive statements from the Serbian leadership," she pointed out.

Regarding Serbia and Kosovo, Fajon said that she now expected maturity and wisdom from the leadership of both countries.

"I understand that it is a very tricky and difficult situation, but this year it is possible to take a big step forward," she underlined.

When asked if Slovenia supported Kosovo's membership in the Council of Europe, she explained that she was not opposed to it, but added that she did not believe that this topic was currently on the table.
