Garic: The Hague verdict will have serious consequences in Kosovo, particularly for the security of Serbs

The verdict in the case against Hashim Thaci and the other KLA leaders will have serious consequences in Kosovo, particularly for the security of Serbs, as a reaction by embittered KLA veterans is widely expected, journalist Milos Garic said.

Garic told RTS that there are more than 1,600 KLA monuments in Kosovo, adding that “Albanians live on an epic narrative, a false myth of the struggle for freedom.”

He stressed that the verdict in The Hague will demonstrate the failure of Western policy.

“If they convict Thaci and the others, it will be an acknowledgment that Western governments were complicit with terrorist gangs and that they have worked to implement the project of forcibly seceding part of Serbia’s territory right up to the present day. This will certainly undermine further attempts to promote the false independence of Kosovo. If they acquit him and Thaci returns triumphantly to Pristina, he will testify every day to the shame produced by the policies and actions of the West during the previous period, namely those of the United States, Germany, Great Britain and NATO forces. Not even all of Kurti’s efforts to turn Kosovo into some kind of false democracy and rule-of-law state will help him avoid the shame that is visible at every turn,” Garic said.

He pointed out that no laws apply in Kosovo, particularly when it comes to Serbs.

Garic said that the warning issued by the US Embassy in Pristina had made America’s disgrace visible.

“Since 1999, America’s disgrace has been present in Kosovo and Metohija, because they allowed everything that is happening today. The US embassy’s warning that civilian security is at risk, while referring to its own citizens and warning that unrest could occur, shows how little control the United States has over events in Kosovo and Metohija. Since the time of Richard Grenell during US President Donald Trump’s first term, when he managed to impose some degree of order, America has lost control and no longer has the same level of influence in Pristina that it once did,” Garic explained.

He stressed that this is why everything we are witnessing today is happening.

Commenting on the absence of congratulations to Albin Kurti’s new government, Garic assessed that this shows that Western countries, above all the United States, no longer have confidence in what Kurti is doing in Pristina.

“They are gradually losing faith in the project they are trying to promote, the project of Kosovo’s independence. Through Kurti, it is not moving in the direction they had envisioned and expected. It is clear to everyone what is happening in Kosovo today. Kurti is abusing every lever of power that the West has placed at his disposal. He has completely set back all processes aimed at normalizing relations and dialogue, as well as all efforts to enable coexistence and put an end to hatred and hostilities,” Garic explained.

He stressed that Kurti is fueling hatred and pursuing an anti-Serb policy.

According to him, it appears that awareness is slowly growing in the West that the project of forcibly imposing “Kosovo statehood” has failed, but they are ashamed to admit it.

“That is why the question is what will happen in the coming months, above all whether the decisions of the Kosovo Assembly will be implemented or whether the Constitutional Court will invalidate them. And if Thaci returns to Kosovo, that would affect Kurti’s political future, because the two are major political rivals,” Garic stressed.
