Garic: Washington has handed over the Kosovo initiative to Berlin and London; they approve the persecution of the Serbs
A possible meeting between Aleksandar Vucic and Vjosa Osmani at today's EU meeting in Granada can be purely symbolic, in terms of attempting to reduce heightened tensions, but genuine dialogue and compromise between the two sides will not be possible for a longer time because the Albanian side rejects it and shows a significant hostility towards the Serbs, the editor of Kosovo Online, Milos Garic, said in the morning program on RTS.
"Vucic will not refuse the possibility of a meeting, not because dialogue is possible now, but because he is concerned about the safety of the Serbs in Kosovo, whose lives are endangered every day. However, it is difficult to talk to Vjosa Osmani. She makes the most serious accusations and threats against Serbia, and she openly displays hatred. She is even more extreme in this regard than Kurti, and it is known what policy the Kosovo Prime Minister is implementing towards the Serbs," Garic emphasized.
He believes that there will be no substantial dialogue in the near future, influenced by many circumstances, but some discussions must be held, especially those related to the safety and rights of the Serbs, for which politicians and international forces in Kosovo must take responsibility.
"Kurti wants to deprive the Serbs of their right to live in Kosovo. Every day, he pushes towards ethnic cleansing of the Serbs, accusing them of crime and terrorism. He sent police forces, weapons, and special units, built bases, and then began terror, arrests, beatings, shooting at people, breaking into houses, establishments, and now even hospitals, and monasteries. Kurti is implementing a malicious tactic, using every opportunity to close the crossings in the north - Jarinje and Brnjak. The police have dug up and blocked all alternative routes to Raska and Novi Pazar. This further hinders communication and supplies for the Serbs in the northern municipalities. People don't have medicines, milk, or basic necessities, and hospitals are running out of medical supplies. Unfortunately, Western mediators are silently watching this," Garic said.
According to him, Kurti has a clear plan to force the Serbs to leave Kosovo, and those who decide to stay want to force them not to be Serbs anymore.
"Kurti would only accept those Serbs who are willing to renounce their state of Serbia, the Serbian language, history, culture, church, and identity. Only then would Kurti be satisfied and consider that he has done his job with the Serbs. The Serbs in Kosovo, of course, do not agree to this, and that is why Kurti's repression is growing," the editor of Kosovo Online emphasized.
Garic sees the main supporters of this policy of the Kosovo authorities in Great Britain and Germany.
"Washington has obviously handed over the initiative to Berlin and London. This is now visible in the attempt to abuse the events in Banjska and try to blame Belgrade. US policy is much more nuanced; there is an understanding of the delicacy of the situation on the ground, and it is not good to exert so much pressure on Serbia. The Albanians, on the other hand, through lobbyists in the US, try to maintain the old narrative. They want to gain support for their armed campaigns and threats by spreading falsehoods and constant accusations against Serbia. It will be crucial how the Washington administration will behave in the period ahead, as peace and the future in the Balkans depend on it," Garic concluded, among other things.
