Gecaj: Grenell’s stance on Kurti is well-known, a government that does not align with the U.S. will not have support

Security expert and retired colonel Hisen Gecaj stated that the stance of former U.S. President Donald Trump’s special envoy for special missions, Richard Grenell, on Kosovo's Prime Minister is already well-known. He recalled that previous U.S. leaders had also raised concerns about Albin Kurti and that this should be understood as a warning directed at the Government of Kosovo and Kurti himself.

Gecaj emphasized that Grenell is not the only one who has expressed reservations about the current Kosovo Prime Minister.

“Grenell’s stance on Kurti has been known for a long time. However, this statement would not be so significant if there were no other similar statements—both from Trump himself and from people around Trump—as well as from previous U.S. leaders who also had objections to Kurti. Every administration in recent times, under the last five U.S. presidents, from the end of the war in Kosovo until now, has had certain objections to Kurti, both when he was in opposition and now when he is in power,” Gecaj told Kosovo Online.

He stressed that such statements must be taken very seriously.

“This is a warning that the U.S. is sending to the Kosovo government, specifically to Albin Kurti in this case. It is well known that America has good relations with the people of Kosovo, and we must separate and clarify that. These relations will be maintained in the future, regardless of who is in power here. However, a government that does not align with the U.S. will not receive support from them and will face consequences for Kosovo,” Gecaj stated.

Grenell previously stated that the Trump administration needed reliable partners in the Balkans and pointed out that Albin Kurti’s government was not a trustworthy one—neither during Trump’s first term nor during Joe Biden’s term.
