Isa Mustafa: Kurti and Osmani, wanting to show their muscles, lost a remaining bit of Kosovo sovereignty
The former prime minister of Kosovo, Isa Mustafa, pointed out that every time Kosovo acted in the north without coordination with the US, it failed, and added that Kosovo's president and prime minister, Vjosa Osmani and Albin Kurti, in their desire to, as he stated, "show their muscles, lost and the remaining bit of sovereignty in the north of Kosovo," Ekonomia online reports.
"At this moment it is difficult to make analyses. Every time there was an attempt to act in the north without prior coordination and support with the US (in particular), it was doomed to failure. Kurti and the Osmani wanted to show their muscles, to appeal to sovereignty and laws, to trample on everything that was done in the past and they demolished in two days even the fragile sovereignty that was achieved there," Mustafa said.
He stated that Kurti and Osmani, only after they "made a complete mess, are they asking KFOR to intervene and open the way for them".
"Now, when they have thought about it, they demand that KFOR opens the way for them. KFOR is not on a war mission, but on a peacekeeping mission in Kosovo, according to Resolution 1244. It is understandable that this mission does not take actions that would create a terrain for conflict," Mustafa stresses.
The former prime minister called the ultimatums to NATO by MPs and supporters of the opposition "stupid".
According to him, "the stupid ultimatums that MPs and supporters of the government put to NATO and the lists of Serbs who should be arrested, strengthen the logic of KFOR to maintain this state of fragile peace".
He believes that there is no other solution for the situation in the north, except to return to dialogue.
He states that the recent actions of the Government and the President of Kosovo regarding the election are only proof of Kosovo's weakness.
"I don't see any other solution but to renew the dialogue. Of course, there were and are gangs and thugs in the north, but classifying them as gangs does not produce results. In fact, the weakness of the state is revealed, because it once called them a gang and then tragically gave up and surrendered to them, as was the case with the elections in the north," Mustafa emphasized.
According to him, "narcissistic leaders" should be made aware that Serbs from the north and south are citizens of Kosovo with whom they should communicate as strategic partners.
"Powerful and arrogant and narcissistic leaders must be aware that the Serbian leaders in Kosovo, in the north and in the south, are citizens of this country. They should be communicated with, as with our strategic partners. If the strategic partners do not have confidence in the maturity of the government, it cannot be expected they would act as in the past. The way is dialogue and understanding," Mustafa concluded.
