KFOR: Our presence in northern Kosovo increased fourfold, the number of patrols tripled

KFOR is fully focused on implementing its UN-mandated mission, based on United Nations Security Council Resolution 1244 from 1999, to provide a safe and secure environment for all communities living in Kosovo and freedom of movement, at all times and impartially, as the Mission responded to Kosovo Online's question about whether they plan to further enhance their presence in the north and increase the number of patrols from December 1, since the deadline set by the Kosovo Government for re-registering vehicles with KM and other license plates to RKS approaches on Friday.

According to KFOR's written response to our editorial team, "in response to recent tensions, the largest troop reinforcement of KFOR in the last decade has taken place."

"Almost 1,000 additional soldiers with heavy weaponry have been deployed. We have quadrupled KFOR's presence in northern Kosovo, and the number of patrols has tripled, including along the administrative line. KFOR maintains a flexible and agile posture across Kosovo and is ready to respond to all possible scenarios in line with its UN mandate. Our mission remains the third reactive security service in Kosovo after the Kosovo Police and EULEX, in that order. Our commander is in regular contact with all major interlocutors, including representatives of Kosovo security organizations, the Chief of the General Staff of the Serbian Armed Forces, and the head of EULEX," the KFOR response states.

The Government of Kosovo had previously announced that Friday (December 1) was the last day for Serbs in northern Kosovo to replace KM and other plates with RKS plates.
