Lawmakers in Pristina failed for the 57th time to constitute the Kosovo Assembly. The session was interrupted, and the next one has been scheduled for August 26 at 11 a.m.

Presiding officer Avni Dehari stated that 106 deputies were present in the chamber and that there was a quorum to continue the session.

Dehari called for the continuation with the third item on the agenda—the election of the Assembly president. He invited the Self-Determination Movement (Vetëvendosje) representative to propose a candidate for the position.

Donika Gervalla, on behalf of Vetëvendosje, proposed Hekuran Murati as president of the parliament and called on the deputies to vote for him.

Fifty-five deputies voted in favor of this proposal, 46 against, and five abstained. Since the proposal was not adopted, Dehari invited Vetëvendosje to present a new candidate.

Hekuran Murati then proposed Arbërie Nagavci, the acting Minister of Education, citing her accomplishments during her mandate.

Nagavci received 55 votes in favor, 47 against, and four abstentions.

Nagavci then proposed Dimalj Basha, which provoked disapproval among opposition deputies. For this proposal, 57 deputies voted in favor, 25 against, and 24 abstained.

Since none of Vetëvendosje’s three proposals secured the required majority, the session was interrupted and will resume on August 26 at 11 a.m.
