Kurti in North Mitrovica without inviting Radojevic: There are no examples of discrimination in the work of institutions
Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti stated today in North Mitrovica that institutions in Kosovo operate in the interest of all citizens, and in response to a journalist’s remark that the situation on the ground does not match the stated views on democracy, he said there are no examples of discrimination in their work. Answering a question about whether he invited the mayor of North Mitrovica during the visit, he said there will be “opportunities.”
Kurti said that, on the anniversary of the killing of Selver Haradinaj, he visited his family, describing it as a “terrorist act.”
“We visited the family of Selver Haradinaj, who was killed 14 years ago, on this day, April 8, by parallel illegal structures of Serbia, which were either led or financed, or both, by official Belgrade. It was a terrorist act. They wanted to kill the entire family living on the ground floor. Selver Haradinaj was killed, but today we visited his family,” Kurti said, thanking the family for their hospitality.
He emphasized that institutions are committed to protecting citizens.
“We are here to serve everyone without distinction and to protect citizens. There will be no more such terrorist acts, and even if terrorists and criminals can cause damage, we are here to prove that they cannot win,” he said.
Kurti then visited the new building of the Tax Administration.
“After visiting the Haradinaj family, we came here to see the new building of the Kosovo Tax Administration. We toured the premises. There are around 30 offices in total, and the working conditions are modern,” he said.
Speaking about the work of institutions, he emphasized the importance of equal treatment of citizens.
“With the new director Mentor Hyseni, we advocate that everyone pays taxes, but at the same time we will serve everyone equally, because equality in the Republic is the norm. The Mitrovica region, with its citizens and several municipalities, will now have a new building here, and this is another proof that the Republic of Kosovo is here to provide better public services and that we are working toward that goal with new projects,” Kurti said.
He added that the new building will improve access to services for all citizens.
“The new building brings services closer to all citizens, both Albanians and Serbs, without distinction. The Republic is democratic precisely because it does not distinguish people by ethnicity. Therefore, for all citizens, and against criminals, and for the rule of law without tolerance,” Kurti said.
Responding to a journalist’s remark that the situation on the ground does not match the stated views on democracy and equality, Prime Minister Albin Kurti said that institutions work in the interest of all citizens.
“That is not the case. We work for all citizens, and I am not above the law. The time before our government was not normal. I am not saying everything is normal now, but things are certainly normalizing because, once again, the law is not something that divides society into those who are unprotected and those who cannot be touched. It unites society through equality and fairness,” Kurti said.
He added that there are no examples of discrimination in the work of institutions.
“You cannot cite a single example where state authorities, the Kosovo Police, or now the Tax Administration do not serve everyone equally and professionally,” he said.
Answering a question about whether he invited the mayor of North Mitrovica during the visit, Kurti said he had not done so this time.
“Not this time, but we will probably have opportunities to meet in the future. There was a peaceful transfer of power, which means that in municipalities north of the Ibar you can be a mayor, a councilor or a director, but only through elections in the Republic of Kosovo,” Kurti said.
