Career diplomat Zoran Milivojevic stated today that the government in Pristina, operating in a technical mandate that has lasted for more than a year, is pursuing a policy of exclusion and pressure against the Serbian people. He also noted the importance of Serbia’s recent insistence, in diplomatic and international communications, on the issue of Kosovo, the position of the Serbian people, and above all, respect for international law and United Nations Security Council Resolution 1244.

Asked to what extent the political crisis in Pristina, given that a fifth election in 16 months is to be held, affects the Serbian population, Milivojevic told RTS that it has certainly had an impact for quite some time.

“It is an unnatural situation, and the problem is the absence of any reaction from certain Western centers and international actors to the fact that a government in a technical mandate, lasting for more than a year, is implementing a policy of excluding Serbia and exerting pressure on the Serbian people, which we witness on a daily basis. Various proceedings are constantly being conducted, people are being arrested, pressures of one kind or another are being applied, and normal life for the Serbian people is being obstructed,” Milivojevic pointed out.

For that reason, he believes this issue will dominate Serbian diplomacy in the coming period.

“The elections are important because the Serbs must secure 10 seats, or at the very least nine, since that is a condition for the survival of the Serbian people and their ability to protect their interests as much as possible. It is also Serbia’s mechanism for preserving Kosovo and Metohija within Serbia, while at the same time enabling action aimed at ensuring the survival of the Serbian people in our southern province,” Milivojevic said.

He added that it is no coincidence that Serbia has recently been insisting, in diplomatic and international communications, on the issue of Kosovo, the position of the Serbian people, as well as on international law and United Nations Security Council Resolution 1244.

“In that context, it is important that, regarding attempts to bring Kosovo closer to NATO, there has been confirmation that KFOR remains irreplaceable, alongside NATO’s position that there are no discussions on the matter, bearing in mind both the procedures involved and the status of Kosovo and Metohija,” Milivojevic added.
