At the monument to the victims in Leposavic, 25 years since the beginning of the NATO bombing was commemorated
Today, in Leposavic, at the monument to fallen heroes, 25 years since the beginning of the NATO bombing was commemorated. After the funeral service conducted by the clergy from Leposavic, wreaths were laid at the memorial by family members, war veterans, representatives of the municipal council, and the President of the Interim Municipal Assembly of Leposavic, Zoran Todic.
At the memorial honoring the memory of the 24 innocent victims, this year, the youth unfurled a banner saying 'In Memory of the Victims of NATO Aggression,' and wreaths were simultaneously laid in the local communities of Lesak and Socanica.
Priest Milutin Popadic emphasized that it was the sacred duty of Christians to remember.
"The sacred duty of us Christians is to remember, to remember our children who perished, little Bojana at the age of one, little Marko at the age of two, and Milica Rakic at the age of three, and so on. All our children, brothers, and sisters innocently perished, with firm faith and hope in the resurrected Christ, that one day we will all meet in the kingdom of heaven, look face to face, eye to eye. Until then, we will remember them in holy liturgies, and mention them with firm faith that we will see them again. Let us pray, brothers and sisters, that God grants them the kingdom of heaven and that what happened to our suffering Serbs never happens to anyone again. May God forgive their souls and grant them the kingdom of heaven," Popadic said.
On behalf of the Association of Descendants of Warriors from 1912 to 1920, Gojko Milivojevic addressed the gathering, saying that history repeated itself.
"I would only say one thing, that history repeats itself. It has been 25 years since the NATO bombing, and today we have gathered to pay tribute to those young people who lost their lives in the war, to remember them once again, and through this remembrance, we are closer to them, even in their slumber," Milovanovic said.
The President of the Interim Municipal Assembly of Leposavic, Zoran Todic, pointed out that even after 25 years, the job that NATO started back then obviously isn't finished.
"We endure the institutional violence of the authorities in Pristina, which every day perpetrates pogroms and persecution against everything Serbian and bearing a Serbian name. It is our duty and obligation to never forget March 24, 1999, but to remember, to commemorate our fallen heroes who, defending their homeland, gave their lives in the events of the war," Todic emphasized.
He also stated that after so many years, the Serbs needed unity and wisdom and wished that the year 1999 never repeated for anyone.
"It is up to us today to be wise above all, united, and to believe that better times will come so that we remain fighting for the right to life, to preserve our hearths, to work on preserving peace, and to ensure that the events we, as a nation, endured in 1999 never happen to anyone again," Todic said.
