Petkovic about the meeting with the Quint: Never a tougher conversation, everyone understands that Kurti is to blame
Director of the Office for Kosovo and Metohija, Petar Petkovic, stated, after the meeting between Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic and the ambassadors of the Quint and the EU, that the conversation had never been tougher, and that Vucic had strongly defended the interests of the Serbs in Kosovo, emphasizing that everyone understood that Albin Kurti was the sole culprit for the current situation.
The topic of the discussion between the Serbian President, the ambassadors of the Quint countries, and the head of the EU Delegation in Belgrade was the decision of the Central Bank of Kosovo to abolish the use of the dinar in that territory.
"It seems to me that I have never attended a more difficult conversation, but President Vucic very strongly defended the interests of the Serbs in Kosovo, primarily their right to survival and life. It was clear to everyone in that room that Kurti is the main culprit," Petkovic said, adding that Kurti neither postponed nor revoked the decision on the dinar.
He emphasized that Vucic would have numerous conversations, and phone calls tomorrow, to do everything within Serbia's power to finally stop Kurti's behavior.
"We will make decisions patiently, wisely, and responsibly, with a long-term goal in mind," Petkovic emphasized.
He announced that in the next day or two, President Vucic would address the public with all the information regarding the topic of tonight's meeting, as well as the overall situation of the Serbs in Kosovo, which, he emphasized, was absolutely endangered by the decision to abolish the dinar.
"The Serbs in Kosovo should know, and they know, that they have behind them the state of Serbia and President Aleksandar Vucic, because we will never give up on our people, and we will fight to protect their rights because they have the right to live, to survive, to have a future, to use payment transactions, and for our institutions to function. We will never give up on that," Petkovic emphasized.
The Presidency of Serbia stated briefly after the meeting that there would be no official statement because "any formal word is unnecessary".
