Petkovic: To whom is Pristina’s militarization directed, if not against the Serbian people

Director of the Office for Kosovo and Metohija, Petar Petkovic, stated that by arming Pristina and delivering more than 1,000 drones to Kosovo, Turkey has directly violated UN Security Council Resolution 1244, under which KFOR is the only armed force in Kosovo.

“Instead of respecting international law, Turkey—through several years of militarizing Pristina—has directly trampled on the UN Charter and become an accomplice together with Kurti in undermining peace and stability in the Western Balkans,” Petkovic said in a statement.

He warned that with this dangerous move Turkey has demonstrated that it constitutes the greatest problem for stability in the region and that it does not seek peace; rather, by rattling weapons it aims to provoke new tensions and crises in the region.

He asked rhetorically against whom this militarization of Pristina and the placing of lethal weapons in the hands of the so-called “arsonist” Albin Kurti is directed—if not against the peaceful Serbian people.

“It is no coincidence that the drones were delivered to Kurti three months ahead of schedule and just a few days before the local elections, so as to give the Serb-hostile Kurti the necessary support ahead of the 12 October vote and enable him to continue to terrorize the Serbian people,” Petkovic asserted.

He added that Belgrade has understood the message and will continue to act responsibly to preserve peace and stability, despite the military alignments being formed to the detriment of peace and which represent a direct threat.

“I remind you that Resolution 1244 also envisages the demilitarization of the so-called UÇK and Pristina forces, and this Turkish action is a direct undermining of that international document,” Petkovic concluded.
