Rakocevic: Metohija is an obstacle to the realization of the idea of Kosovo’s cultural heritage

Journalist and writer from Gracanica, Zivojin Rakocevic, told Kosovo Online that there are three cultural heritages in Kosovo, Serbian, Ottoman, and Albanian, but that the regime in Pristina seeks to present everything as Kosovo’s heritage, with Metohija standing as an obstacle to such intentions.

“Metohija does not allow that idea to be realized. Nor can it. As long as you have Metohija in your heart, as long as you can touch the awe-inspiring image of Christ in Decani, or caress the Nemanjic Dynasty Tree in the Patriarchate of Pec, it remains absolutely ours through all centuries and all times. The administration strives to falsify what it cannot seize and what it failed to appropriate through pogroms and various regimes,” he emphasized, commenting on why institutions in Pristina object to the use of the word Metohija.

Metohija, he says, is Serbia’s most fertile, most sacred, most beautiful, and most sanctified land.

“There are three UNESCO World Heritage monuments there. It is a treasury of humanity. There are hectares of frescoes, and it is entirely understandable that an authoritarian regime, which now believes it controls all this, must abolish the word Metohija because they need to run away from everything that is ours, that is beautiful, and that, as we now see, lies at the very heart of their body, of what they perceive as Kosovo’s identity and culture,” Rakocevic concluded.
