As reported by RTK, today marks the end of the three-month transition period set by the Central Bank of Kosovo regarding the use of the dinar. According to the report, starting tomorrow, measures will be taken against anyone using currencies other than the euro for cash transactions in Kosovo.

It is further highlighted that no punitive measures were issued during this transition period, but citizens were informed about the implementation of the cash payment regulation.

In the meantime, commercial banks operating in Kosovo have been instructed to open new branches in the north.

From May 12th, all cash transactions anywhere in Kosovo must be conducted in euros.

"Other currencies besides the euro may be used in Kosovo as a store of value in physical form or on bank accounts in non-euro currencies, for making international payments in non-euro currencies, and for foreign exchange activities," states the CBK regulation.

Prime Minister Albin Kurti, when asked a few days ago about the end of the transition phase, reiterated that such matters are decided by the Central Bank of Kosovo, not the executive branch.
