Tolkach: Kurti's comparison of Kosovo and Ukraine is not normal
Ambassador of Ukraine to Serbia Volodymyr Tolkach said that it was not possible to compare the cases of Ukraine and Kosovo, which had been made by the Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, because Russia had recognized Ukrainian borders, Nova reports.
When reminded that Kurti stated in his letter to the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy that the stories of Kosovo and Ukraine had an "obvious similarity" and that they were two nations that had lost many of their best citizens due to the "imperialist plans of neighboring countries", Tolkach replied that it could not be compared.
"We can have different views on different issues. In Belgrade, for example, we can see posters that Kosovo is Serbia and Crimea is Russia. When someone says that it is the same situation, we can say that it is not, because each situation is a story in itself. On the other hand, we live in a world where we have accepted the principles of common life, and coexistence with other people. These are primarily the principles of international law, and Ukraine supports those principles," Tolkach said.
He added that Ukraine was in favor of a peaceful settlement of the Kosovo issue and would respect those agreements and contracts that were signed, and then he was decisive about the comparison between Ukraine and Kosovo.
"These are things that are different and cannot be compared. First of all, it is because the Russian Federation recognized the borders of Ukraine. They were recognized by the Budapest Treaty, the contract between the Russian Federation and Ukraine. That is why it is not normal to compare," Tolkach said.
He denied the allegations of some media and part of the political public that Serbia was selling weapons to Ukraine, which President Aleksandar Vucic refuted.
"I do not have any information that would disprove the statement of the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic. So, Serbia did not sell any weapons to Ukraine or the Russian Federation, nor any military and related equipment. Also, I would like no one in the world to supply weapons to our aggressor, because those weapons are killing our people," Tolkac said.
He added that they were working on organizing the talks between Vucic and Zelenskyy, adding that the situation was not simple.
As he added, Ukraine understood Serbia's position but would be grateful if Serbia joined the sanctions against Russia.
