Zemaj on the elections in the north of Kosovo: The incompetent government transferred the responsibility to the CEC
The representative of the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK), Armend Zemaj, told Gazeta Blic that the situation in connection with the elections in the north of Kosovo was a consequence of last year's issue of license plates and that the government was now shifting responsibility to the CEC, adding that the situation "will not pass without consequences and is not easily feasible".
"The arrogance of this government in managing the situation, especially in the northern part of Kosovo since the beginning of the mandate, is problematic in itself, but also in terms of constitutionality and legality in the entire territory of Kosovo. The problem of license plates has left consequences, by playing with international partners, which the government did not listen to, by postponing the elections, giving up leading people to be mayors, and now by transferring responsibility to the CEC; the government is trying to cover up the problems, attacks, attempts to destabilize the north and the way of dealing with that part in the dialogue with Serbia, i.e. after the Ohrid Agreement," Zemaj said.
As he says, the situation "seems that it will not pass without consequences and it is not easy to manage".
"In that context, we support the government in achieving sovereignty and legality in that part, but we cannot remain inert to the lack of transparency about what problems there are in that part of Kosovo," Zemaj says.
As he said, the essence of the problem with the north was not the elections, but the fact that there was no stable government of Kosovo's institutions in that part.
The government, he says, claims the opposite, but for him it is populism.
"The government said the opposite, that there had never been more legality than now since the war, and in a figurative sense, everything with the memos, which we mentioned through the CEC, shows the government's inability to deal with the problem that is happening there," Zemaj assesses.
He adds that Kosovo had to prepare for a different situation, after the resignations of the Serbs in the north, because now there is no transparency about the situation, so he does not see a solution, but he notes that partnership and the influence of the international community are important, noting that there has been "a change of tune of the Quint countries".
According to him, "without discussing the influence of Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic in the north, we cannot move forward", and it will only lead to destabilization, because, he says, "Serbia is the aggressor, and Kurti as Prime Minister puts the government in a trap".
