Bozana Spasic on the dinar ban: People can't go on like this much longer, this is survival
Bozana Spasic, a single mother of five underage children, is just one of the citizens adversely affected by the Central Bank of Kosovo's regulation banning transactions in dinars, as due to long queues and a shortage of dinars, she cannot withdraw financial aid from Serbia, which she uses to support herself and her children.
Spasic says for Kosovo Online that she tried to withdraw money last month but failed due to overcrowding and the lack of funds.
"Even when payments were regular, it was difficult, let alone now when there won't be regular payments with queues outside the Post Office, and even if you manage to get there, there may not be enough money for us. Especially since I have five children, if there's a crowd, someone will have to watch over them, but there's no one to do that. It's very hard," Spasic stated.
She emphasizes that the Central Bank of Kosovo's regulation has further complicated her life.
"I manage somehow, borrowing and returning or getting one-time assistance from the Social Welfare Center, which is always there for me and the children. I somehow scrape by. If there's no budget for it, there is the community kitchen where I can get food," she said.
Despite the hardships, this mother still hopes for a better future.
"I hope for better things and what we circled, or rather, who we voted for. That's why I hope for a better future," Spasic conveyed.
Due to the decision of the authorities in Pristina, Spasic believes that people will soon be forced to leave Kosovo.
"People, families, and single mothers are struggling for their existence and for the overall life that we can't live normally here. It's because of laws, normal strolls in the city, children, food, and everything else. People won't be able to live here much longer. This is survival, not life," she remarked.
Spasic appealed to the international community to address the issue of dinars, which has significantly affected the population.
"I would appeal to the international community to remember and resolve this issue regarding the current situation, which is causing suffering to all children, families, and single mothers in every sense," Spasic concluded.
