The Kosovo Agency for Statistics (ASK) announced that more than 740,000 people in Kosovo are economically inactive, do not work and are currently not registered in any bureau in search of work. From the data for the period of the first quarter of 2022, as reported by Reporteri, the number of 100,000 people, aged 15 to 24, who, in addition to being unemployed, are not in school or attending professional training, is the most worrying.

KAS data show that more than 1.2 million citizens are able to work, that more than 380,000 are employed, about 77,000 are unemployed and more than 750,000 are economically inactive.

The business community says that citizens who are largely described as passive do not apply to look for work because these institutions have failed to respond to their requests, and they do not have financial support while they wait for employment.

"It is believed that there were more than 740,000 inactive people and those who are not looking for work during the first quarter of 2022, of which 98,000 are young people," said Ilir Berisha, president of the Kosovo Agency for Statistics.

He says that the number of people who are not looking for work is increasing.

Director of the American Chamber of Commerce in Kosovo Arian Zeka says that despite the high demand for workers in the private sector, there is a gap in the availability of labour force.
