Rombo: While waiting for the entry into the EU, the countries of the region should abolish their mutual borders

The European Union is based on the Benelux, when three countries, Belgium, Luxembourg and the Netherlands abolished the borders between themselves, and that's why I think the "Open Balkans" is an excellent initiative, Filip Rombo, the owner of the Bulgarian company Agropolichym, pointed out for Kosovo Online.

"I remember when I was a child, and when the borders disappeared, that we traveled to the Netherlands just to cross the border without control," says Rombo, who participated in the "Strategic Economic Dialogue" gathering in Savudrija, organized by the Business Development Network of Southeast Europe (SEEBDN) from Vienna.

He pointed out that, after Bulgaria and Romania were not admitted to the Schengen zone, as it was planned, huge crowds are created at the borders, which represents a big problem for the economy.

As he said, if it takes time for Serbia, North Macedonia, and Montenegro to join the European Union - "come on, then let's start abolishing the borders between those countries".

"If you all say you're ready, then abolish the borders," said Rombo.

He notes that this certainly has implications for free trade agreements, because some countries have more and some less, but, he adds, a choice must be made.

"If the EU postpones integration, that is, the admission of Serbia, Montenegro and North Macedonia, then you need to show that you can reach an agreement among yourselves. Like the Benelux countries, that you can live together without borders," concluded Rombo.
