Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti relativizes the measures introduced by the EU and the USA against Kosovo, and the government is now reaping what it has sown, so new elections are the only way out for the government from the situation, several political analysts told for the Albanian Post portal.

Sociologist Artan Muhaxhiri says Kurti's latest behavior is typical of a populist politician.

According to Muhaxhiri, instead of realistically facing the extremely unfavorable situation in which he and Kosovo find themselves, Kurti intends to shift his focus to other domains - moral, symbolic and emotional.

"The Prime Minister should now visit Washington, Brussels, Berlin and Paris, to discuss with decision-makers the possibility of abolishing the current punitive measures and preventing others that have been announced. However, he still remains in Pristina. This choice of his proves his strategy to approach does not change, but the continuation of this situation for a long time will weaken his position and strengthen his isolation," Muhaxhiri assesses.

In all of this, according to Muhaxhiri, only new elections can save Kurti, because it is the only remaining option through which he can capitalize on "the current state of populist fervor".

"Every normal government should have a unique topic for analysis, discussion and action - improving relations with the US and the EU. Finding rescue methods is an essential state priority towards which all existing potentials should be directed. Any attempt to diminish the importance of this vital topic indicates to a tragic misunderstanding of politics and malicious populist ignorance," Muhaxhiri believes.

Analyzing the fact that the Government of Kosovo lightly accepted the EU's punitive measures, Abit Hoxha, lecturer for conflicts and media at the University of Agder in Norway, says that the measures are temporary, but what should be emphasized is that the damage caused by these measures is long-term, since the disruption of relations with in the western world very easily, while their construction is much more difficult.

"Kurti's government is now only reaping what it has sown. Kurti and his party from the opposition wrote letters to the competent authorities calling on Kosovo not to be given a telephone code, they misinterpreted the signing of the SAA and did not vote for it, as well as taking a series of actions that damaged state processes and government plans," says Hoxha.

The attempt to blame the opposition for the situation, in order to amortize the situation of introducing punitive measures, Hoxha evaluates as "infantile", taking into account the strength that the Government of Kosovo has in the Assembly.

Prime Minister Kurti, in a statement to the media, after the imposition of punitive measures, blamed the opposition parties, stating "that in Kosovo they should not only deal with the imposition of measures, but also the fact that the members of the Assembly of Kosovo are blocking the vote on loans and international grants worth a total of 150 million euros".

"The government is involved in the biggest frauds in Kosovo, precisely because it has a bad performance in capital investments that has not been seen in Kosovo so far. Therefore, the biggest financial sanction against Kosovo, at the moment, is the Government of Kosovo itself," says Hoxha.
